The Sluice Pond Association creates a sense of community among its members by offering events and celebrations throughout the year.
POND WEED TREATMENT For 2016 TBA.
The SPA is contacted the City to arrange to have another treatment for the weeds this spring. We are not yet set up with the contracting with ACT. ACT will put up a few posters on the day of the treatment. In the past, ACT recommended no swimming or fishing for 24 hours after the treatment.
Operation Bootstrap, Inc. is celebrating 40 years of serving adults on the North Shore with education services. Over the past 40 years, Operation Bootstrap has served over 15,000 individuals with adult basic education and English language classes. Over 3,000 students completed their GED! They now shift to integrate work readiness skills into the curriculum, partnering with other local institutions to streamline access to credentials and career pathways in order to move students and their families to economic independence.
Operation Bootstrap is celebrating past success and their future with a 40th Anniversary Gala November 3rd, 2016 from 5PM 7:30PM at the Lynn Museum. MA’s First Lady, Lauren Baker will be the Keynote Speaker. Tickets are $75 and sponsorship opportunities are available in their Program book. Next scheduled events:
In addition to the Annual 4th of July celebration, the Children's Boat Parade (for children of all ages) and the annual Holiday Season celebration with neighbors of all spiritual beliefs. Other events focus on our responsibility to eachother as neighbors and as the trustees and stewards of Sluice Pond. These events include the semi-annual clean-up of the waterfront and the public access areas of Sluice Pond. We invite members, their neighbors and all of the small businesses located on Sluice Pond and in Wyoma Square to join us in annual clean-up events as well as in community water safety and crime watch activities.
WYOMA SQARE FAMILY FESTIVAL
Always the last Saturday in June, this year the festival will once again feature sidewalk sales, face painting and lots of good eats and treats for the entire family on June 25.
The DPW and Pond Clean Up.
The Lynn DPW has been contacted and we have requested assistance with cleaning near the gate next to the 4Winds on Broadway, the embankment near the Knights of Columbus and the Briarcliff parking lot and boat ramp. Both DPW crews and Volunteers are welcome to clean public grounds on Broadway and the boat ramp as well as near the K of C and the public egress on Kernwood Drive.
We are once again distributing Membership forms. Membership is only $20 per household and helps to offset the costs of conducting activities at Sluice Pond. Pond abutters and neighboring residents are welcome to join Sluice Pond Association, run for office and help us to preserve the pond for ourselves and the general public.
FALL 2016 CLEAN UP DAY
Volunteers are needed for the fall clean up. Please bring gloves, rakes, brooms and bags. The SPA's team captain, Pat McNaulty will also bring some tools and bags supplied by the City of Lynn. This year we have a donated shredder to help with cleaning up small branches. Meet at the city property next to the Four Winds on Broadway at 9AM on October 22, 2016.
