The Sluice Pond Association creates a sense of community among its members by offering events and celebrations throughout the year.

POND WEED TREATMENT for fanwort again on July 21.

The SPA is contacted the City to arrange to have another treatment for the weeds this spring. We are not yet set up with the contracting with ACT. ACT will put up a few posters on the day of the treatment. In the past, ACT recommended no swimming or fishing for 24 hours after the treatment.

SUMMER, 2011

Next scheduled events:

FISH RESTOCKING

Ippi's Environmental + Trout Re-Stocking Day July 31st (9am-11am) on Sluice Pond at the Boat Ramp at Briarcliff Lodge and Adult Day Care on the Corner of Lynnfield St + 112 Kernwood Dr. Lynn MA 01904!!! Ippi's B + T will be open from (6am-9am) that day so Ippi can run the event, to speak to the kids about the Environment + Fishing Etiquette and Nancy will perform wonders with her face painting on the kids. The Sluice Pond Association stated, for SAFTY PURPOSES, that there will be no fishing in the Boat Ramp Cove during the time that the kids will be running around stocking fish. Also anyone that would fish during the time of any restocking is not much of a "Sportsman" because the fish need a day to acclimate to there area so they have a chance, it's "cheating"!
Everyone is Welcome to come and watch but it is only the kids that can help Ippi Stock Trout in Sluice Pond!
Ippi has a "green can" at Ippi's for Donations for saving money for Re-Stocking Trout in our local cold water spring fed Sluice Pond. The Kids throw in their change into the can, some customers donate into the can every year, winners of our derby put some of there winnings into + Ippi takes 10% of monies collected at derbies and puts it into the can, then deposits it into it's own account at the bank. It takes about 3 years to collect about $1000 to be enough to buy about 150 trout over 12 inches. We need them to be at least 12 inches so the cormorants don't eat them down like candy.

In addition to the Annual 4th of July celebration, the Children's Boat Parade (for children of all ages) and the annual Holiday Season celebration with neighbors of all spiritual beliefs. Other events focus on our responsibility to eachother as neighbors and as the trustees and stewards of Sluice Pond. These events include the semi-annual clean-up of the waterfront and the public access areas of Sluice Pond. We invite members, their neighbors and all of the small businesses located on Sluice Pond and in Wyoma Square to join us in annual clean-up events as well as in community water safety and crime watch activities.

MAY, 2011

Volunteers assisted in the Spring Clean Up bringing gloves, rakes, brooms and bags. The SPA's team captain, Mike Petrewich was away on business and Pat McNaulty headed the effort. Some tools and bags were supplied by the City of Lynn. This year we have a donated shredder to help with cleaning up small branches. The Sheriff's Department has been contacted and we have requested assistance with cleaning the embankment near the Knights of Columbus and the Briarcliff parking lot and boat ramp, but the Department of Public works employee informed us that the city would take care of cleaning Briarcliff. Volunteers cleaned public grounds on Broadway and the boat ramp as well as near the K of C and the public egress on Kernwood.

June, 2011

Please contact city officials to discuss your weed management problems. To continue our efforts to FIGHT THE WEEDS, we are sponsored another Money Calendar with the drawings every day in June. Proceeds from the raffle will help to assure that funds are available in partnership with Lynn Community Development and the city of Lynn.

Money Calendar Raffle flyers are being dropped off to all households with a request for your help this season. For the past several years we have used the funds from the proceeds of the raffle and other events to request federal funding under grant matching programs. This year we may need to contribute to the payment for the weed treatment if suficient funds are not made available from the City and Lynn Water and Sewer.
MONEY CALENDAR RAFFLE WINNERS-Watch the winner calendar for your name in June!

June 23- Weed treatment of sluice pond by Aquatic Control Technology is scheduled for Thursday. The weed treatment chemicals permit no swimming or fishing in Sluice Pond for at least 24 hours. Also, using pond water for irrigation is not recommended for at least 72 hours.

O
n INDEPENDENCE DAY we will celebrate with the annual boat parade that anyone can enter. Dress up your craft to celebrate. The parade will meet at the boat ramp at BRIARCLIFF LODGE at 2:45 for a trip around the pond at noon. The parade will take place from the Briarcliff boat ramp and will circle the coves and pond and return to the Briarcliff ramp area. All youth and their parents are welcome. On the 4th flares will light up around the pond at 9 PM. Get your flares to place at the water's edge at Tru Value in Wyoma Square.
