Great Strides Keep Sluice Pond Clean and Safe
Please make a donation to the Sluice Pond Restoration Project. In addition to safely treating the weeds, we are planning Water Safety and Neighborhood Crime Watch programs. We have received our tax exempt status and your donations will be acknowledged by letter. We have raised $5,000 from your membership dues, the annual Fight-The-Weeds Money Raffle and contributions which can be used as private matching funds for grant support or direct payment for our portion of the weed treatment. Thank you.
$20,000 was awarded to Lynn by the state legislature for weed treatment at Sluice Pond in 2007 and again in 2008. This funding was lost in 2009 with the state budget cuts. The city of Lynn and Lynn Water and Sewer paid for the weed maintenance treatment in 2009. In 2010 the neccessary maintenance treatment was not done. The turtles and wildlife suffered from weed entanglement and swimmers faced danger of drowning from weed entanglement. Mayor Kennedy vowed to help by this spring and arranged for the city and Community development to once again treat the pond. More funds are needed for long term weed maintenance. PayPal is a secure way to put your contribution on any major credit card.
